Sometimes Life just Sucks!

So today has been a great day! (This is said with heavy sarcasm). Today or rather early this morning our apartment was broken into. Yes this is true. It must have occurred between about midnight to six in the morning.
It started off like any other day...got up, got ready, went to start my car. I was walking down the stairs and I noticed that our front door wasn't completely shut. Sometimes when you shut the door it won't click, but it looks shut. I saw that it was like this and just assumed that Kaylie had gotten up to start her car as well and when she came back in she didn't shut the door all the way. So I started my car and then went back to my room to finish getting ready. Then I went downstairs to the kitchen and as I was walking to the kitchen I noticed that the window in the empty room downstairs (which used to be my room) was wide open. I called up to Kaylie "Is there a reason the window is open?" She came down the stairs and said no, then she turned around to go back up the stairs and found a wallet laying on the stairs. At that moment we realized what was going on. We then opened all of the closet and room doors in our apartment to see if anyone was in our apartment, then we looked to see if anything was stolen. We couldn't find anything missing, then I asked Kaylie if she had left her laptop downstairs...and she had. We ran down the stairs to see if it was there...and it was gone. We freaked out a bit and she called the cops. We waited for them to show up. We looked around the apartment to see if anything else was missing, instead we found a set of keys in the bedroom downstairs. Not a normal set of keys, no it was a set of seven identical keys, and the key chain they were on had the number of our apartment on it. Yes these were the keys that the manager has.
The cops eventually arrived we told them what we knew, and gave them the wallet and the keys. Come to find out the manager's apartment had been broken into and six sets of keys were stolen, and at least two other apartments in our complex were broken into. Plus a few other apartment complexes have been broken into this week and last week.
Also, Kaylie later discovered that her nice Nikon camera that she got for graduation was stolen. Poor Kaylie had over $2000 worth of stuff stolen. Now you might ask if I had anything stolen. Well yes I did. I had my teal fleece blanket stolen. Yes I had a blanket stolen. What the heck? Really? But what is most important is that Kaylie and I are fine...a little shaken up...but we were not hurt. Kaylie's dad was nice enough to come up and put some extra locks on our door and windows, plus all of the locks have been replaced in all of the apartments. Kaylie's dad is staying the night to protect us. I have to admit that this has been one scary experience, and it sure has been one of those days.

We had our apartment in Washington broken into about 2 months after we had lived there. It is a SCARY experience!! We knew ours had because they kicked in our door while we were at work. Atleast we weren't asleep in the house when it happened. You guys are very lucky that all he took was a few items that can be replaced. Be safe! Oh, I bet your mom is FREAKING out. Glad your all safe!

Just so you know Mom did tell Dad so now there is going to be even more freak out! That is so scary, I'm glad you two are okay and I hope she get's her stuff back. That really stinks. But, imagine if you had woken up and confronted the intruder??? Not good. Keep me posted if they find your stuff or even catch the dude!!!

Yuck, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe the blanket was to hide what they were stealing.

By the way, it's not a good idea to start you car and leave it running... it may easily get stolen as well.

I am so sorry your right life does suck sometimes...

I agree with Anisa I know a guy who started his car went in the house for something he forgot left his car running. When he came out his car was gone.. So be careful about that one.

Wait, so you looked around the apartment in all the closets BEFORE the police came? Scary and dangerous! I'm so glad you didn't get hurt and that you only had a blanket stolen. So weird.
